Meet Kate, the Strong Firecracker

Happy Member Monday! Today we are highlighting Kate, one of our original members! Kate started working out with Coach Jer during the shutdown in 2020. She has gained so much strength and accomplished so much since then.

One thing we love about Kate is that she never backs down from a fight - whether it’s against the barbell or standing up for something she believes in (or Coach Jer when she doesn’t “like” the programming). She’s a “girly girl” and a fantastic mother to her four daughters. When she steps into the gym, she is strong, confident, and pushes herself to add a little more weight or move a little faster.

What brought you to Functional Fitness in the first place?

Covid actually brought me to Jeremy! When gyms were shut down, Jeremy got creative and started doing park workouts. I loved that instead of using the pandemic as an excuse, Jeremy used it as motivation to open his gym!

What was your first impression? How has that changed?

I was always intimidated by “CrossFit” -ish workouts and didn’t think that I’d ever enjoy lifting weights. I was so, so wrong!! I’ll never go back to light weights and cardio. Jeremy offers such a variety of fitness options. The workouts are never boring, he coaches you through every step and I’m always learning. He emphasizes correct form so I always feel confident that if I’m not doing something right, he’ll fix it!

What was your first “bright spot or ah-ha” moment?

I think the biggest thing for me has been proving to myself that I can do hard things! Jeremy is awesome at instilling confidence in his members. Lots of workouts make me feel like on paper I can’t do it, but if I show up anyway, I never regret it and walk out feeling amazing. I love knowing that I did something new that I didn’t think I could. I love being challenged!

What are you working on now?

Overall health! I’m excited about the nutrition challenge. I love that Jeremy looks at wellness as a whole, not just come for a workout and go home. He looks at the whole picture and has so much knowledge that he shares to help us reach our goals.

What’s your favorite Sunshine Functional Fitness memory?

The first time I got a double under!! I was embarrassingly excited!
