Meet Sandra, the Commitment Queen

We want you to meet Sandra, our commitment queen! Sandra has been with Sunshine since before the gym opened. When gyms closed in 2020, we began providing workouts at a local park, where we could safely distance. Through the heat and the mosquitos, Sandra showed up with a smile and ready to work!

Now, a year later, Sandra continues to be a great friend and example to other members. We hope that everyone is inspired by her commitment to her health and fitness. Oh, and thanks for always bringing in fruit from your garden!

What brought you to Functional Fitness in the first place? I was drawn to the community, the friendships and the health that functional fitness builds. We all come from different backgrounds and have our own set of fitness weaknesses, but it's so awesome to workout with people/friends that motivate you and push you to be better.

What was your first impression? How has that changed? My first impression was wow, these guys are fit and I want to be just like them. Through the years I realized that being good at functional fitness does not happen overnight. It takes years of dedication and great coaching.

What was your first “bright spot or ah ha” moment? My first ah ha moment was when I was able to string my first set of dubs (double-unders). Practice does pay off. I am not perfect at them, but I sure am better than last year.

What are you working on now? On a personal level, I am working on accepting my body as it is and as my coach says, not worrying about the number on the scale. Instead it's important to focus on how I feel, look and perform at the gym. At the gym, I am currently working on snatch form. Seeing what mistakes I am making and correcting them with the help of coach Jeremy will make me a better lifter.

What’s your favorite Sunshine Functional Fitness memory? My favorite Sunshine Functional Fitness memory was when our coach told us he received the key to the new indoor, A/C gym and of course our first WOD at the new location.
